Enphase Energy, a global energy technology company, has commended Brazil’s new fire safety standard, ABNT NBR 17193, which mandates rapid shutdown for all solar installations. The regulation requires this functionality before grid connection to ensure immediate system de-energization in emergencies. It aims to reduce fire risks from high-voltage DC components, particularly centralized string inverters. To enhance safety, ABNT NBR 17193 promotes alternatives that convert low-voltage DC to AC at the panel level, minimizing high-voltage DC exposure. These measures improve safety for property, individuals, and emergency responders while aligning with global solar safety practices.
