EDP Renewables North America, a Houston-based renewable energy developer, has inaugurated the 200 MW Scarlet II Solar Park in Fresno County, California. The project follows the earlier Scarlet I installation, which included 200 MW of solar and a 40 MW/160 MWh battery system. Scarlet II features a 150 MW/600 MWh battery, contracted under long-term Resource Adequacy agreements with Ava Community Energy and San José Clean Energy. The solar output has been secured through a 15-year VPPA. As per California’s Resource Adequacy Program, battery capacity must support grid reliability by covering peak electricity demand. EDP Renewables North America stated that over 140 construction jobs were created and $1.5 million was spent locally. The company also confirmed that 1,757 tons of material were recycled with Rosendin during construction through its Close the Loop Program.
