Oman inaugurated its solar power project, the Manah 1 and Manah 2 solar plants, with a total capacity of 1 GW. The project is in the Wilayat of Manah in the Al Dakhiliyah Governorate. It spans 14.5 million square meters and includes over 2 million bifacial PV solar panels. The plants use 1,800 automated dry-cleaning robots to conserve water. They will increase Oman’s renewable energy share from 6.6% to 11%. The project is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by 1.4 million tonnes annually. It was developed through a public-private partnership. Manah 1 involved Wadi Noor Solar Energy, EDF Renewables, and Korea Western Power Co. Manah 2 was executed with Sembcorp Industries and Jinko Power. Oman aims for 8 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030 and 100% renewable energy by 2050 under Vision 2040.
