US-based DESRI (D. E. Shaw Renewable Investments) has begun construction on the Catclaw Solar and Storage project in Buckeye, Arizona, a 205 MW AC hybrid facility with 1 GWh of battery storage. The project, acquired from Avantus in 2024, is backed by a 20-year power purchase agreement with Arizona Public Service (APS) and is expected to power around 40,000 homes annually upon its 2026 completion. RES and EPC Services Company are managing construction, with Tesla supplying the battery systems and Invenergy Services responsible for operations and maintenance for the project. Financial backing was secured from a consortium including BNP Paribas, Korea Development Bank, and others. DESRI currently operates or builds over 290 MW AC of renewable assets in Arizona, with Catclaw marking its first collaboration with APS.
