Consumers Energy has recently disclosed its intention to start construction on its Liberty Farms Solar project in Kalamazoo County, Michigan, in 2026, with its operations scheduled for 2027. Once completed, the project is expected to generate electricity for around 52,000 homes each year, supporting participants in Consumers Energy’s voluntary Renewable Energy Program. The company has worked with local officials to select appropriate sites that offer both economic and environmental advantages. The 220 MW facility is part of the company’s Clean Energy Plan, which aims to add more than 8 GW of clean energy by 2040. Consumers Energy, based in Michigan, provides natural gas and electricity to 6.8 million people across 68 counties in the Lower Peninsula.
