US-based Connecticut’s Department of Correction and Department of Administrative Services, in collaboration with the Connecticut Green Bank and TotalEnergies, has completed the installation of seven solar energy systems across six correctional facilities. Announced in April 2025, the 8.3 MW solar capacity is expected to save the state over $11 million in energy costs and reduce approximately 5,000 metric tons of carbon emissions annually. The projects were financed through the Connecticut Green Bank’s Solar MAP process, with TotalEnergies owning, operating, and maintaining the systems under a power purchase agreement. Facilities in Cheshire, Enfield, and Somers are now utilizing clean energy to support Connecticut’s 2040 zero-carbon electricity target.
