ComEd, a electric utility companybased in Chicago, and Prologis, a global logistics real estate firm headquartered in San Francisco, have launched a 1.56MW rooftop community solar project in Franklin Park. It is the first of 45 rooftop solar installations that Prologis plans to develop across Illinois. The system is installed atop a 195,000-square-foot Prologis logisticscenter and is currently delivering solar energy to the ComEd grid. According to ComEd, over half of the projects energy credits have been allocated to income-qualified households to help reduce utility bills and expand access to renewable power. Prologis has committed to deploying 82MW of rooftop solar across its Illinois facilities. As per ComEd CEO Gil Quiniones, the rollout demonstrates the effect of state-level solar incentives under CEJA. The initiative aims to benefit residential customers while converting commercial rooftops into distributed clean energy sources within the ComEd service area.
