US-based CleanCapital has announced two brownfield solar projects nearing completion in Illinois and Maryland. The 9.15 MW Yeoman Solar project in Waukegan is built on the Yeoman Creek Landfill Superfund site and this project is expected to generate nearly 13,036 MWh annually by 2025. This is part of the Illinois Solar for All program, providing discounted electricity credits to low-income households. CleanCapital partnered with PowerMarket for community engagement and subscription management. The 822 kW Little Elk Solar project in Elkton, developed on a former paper mill Superfund site, will supply power under Maryland’s Community Solar Pilot Program. Both projects were advanced following CleanCapital’s acquisition of BQ Energy. They represent ongoing efforts to repurpose contaminated land for community-scale energy generation and to expand distributed solar capacity across the United States.
