Cider Solar Farm receives approval, set to be New York’s biggest solar facility

Hecate Energy and Greenbacker Renewable have secured ORES approval to begin construction on their 500 MW solar project, New York’s largest, in Genesee County.

Both US-based companies, Hecate Energy and Greenbacker Renewable Energy Company have acquired ORES approval to start construction on the Cider Solar Farm. The 500 MW PV project is located in Genesee County and will become New York’s largest PV facility on completion, as per the press release. Greenbacker has secured $950 million in financing for this project's acquisition, construction, and operation, recently. The portfolio covers an area of around 2,500 acres and is expected to generate 920,000 MWh of power annually, powering over 120,000 households. Hecate and Greenbacker have signed Host Community Benefit Agreements with Elba and Oakfield, ensuring direct economic benefits. The project has initially received siting approval in 2022 and has now completed pre-construction requirements.
