Boralex, an Ontario, Canada-based renewable energy developer, has signed a 450 MW solar deal with New York State Energy Research and Development Authority through its 2024 Tier-1 REC solicitation. The Two Rivers Solar (200 MW) and Fort Covington Solar (250 MW) installations are located in Franklin and St. Lawrence Counties and are pending permitting review. Construction is expected to begin in 2026, with the two installations scheduled to be commissioned by 2028, Boralex stated. The portfolio is expected to power about 105,000 homes once completed. Boralex has indicated that the project will create 300 to 400 construction positions and long-term operating positions. The projects are also anticipated to yield tax revenue and development incentives. Community leaders have also been rallying behind it owing to the local economic advantages of the proposed solar installations.
