Germany based BayWa r.e. renewable energy solutions company has received planning approval under the UK’s Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project (NSIP) framework for its Oaklands Farm Solar Park in South Derbyshire. The 140 MW solar park combined with 37.5 MW of battery storage, will generate enough electricity to power approximately 35,000 homes.The approval followed a three-year process including public consultation, technical assessment and examination by the Planning Inspectorate, concluding in June 2025. The project spans 191 hectares and includes over GBP 2million (~$26.99million) in community funding, up to GBP 9 million (~$ 12.14 million) in business rates for local services and 114 full-time equivalent construction jobs. Environmental features include 125% habitat net gain, underground grid cabling and the creation of 38 skylark breeding plots. The site will retain agricultural use through sheep grazing. With GBP 20 million (~$ 2.699 million) i of domestic construction spending and local supply chain support, Oaklands Farm Solar Park contributes to the UK’s Clean Power 2030 Action Plan and reinforces BayWa r.e.’s renewable leadership.
