Bahrain has launched its first major utility-scale solar project with a planned capacity of 150 MW. The facility will be located in the southern region near Bilaj Al Jazayer, covering about 1.2 km². The Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) has engaged KPMG Fakhro, WSP Parsons Brinckerhoff, and Trowers & Hamlins as advisors. A Global Market Sounding will invite interest from August 14 2025, followed by tendering in Q4 2025, with commercial operations targeted for Q3 2027. The project, structured as a public-private partnership, is planned to generate power for 6,300 homes and reduce over 100,000 tons of CO₂ emissions each year. It is included in Bahrain’s National Renewable Energy Plan, which sets targets for renewable energy share and long-term emission reductions.
