Attero, an UP based e-waste recycling company and the National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE) have initiated a project to develop and test solar panel recycling technologies in India. The agreement includes using end-of-life panels from NISE to assess recycling methods created by both organizations. With India’s solar PV waste expected to reach around 600 kilotons by 2030 and 19,000 kilotons by 2050, the project addresses the need for structured disposal and recycling systems. NISE will support the effort with data and technical provision, while Attero will lead the recycling trials. Plans also include setting up a joint facility at the NISE campus for further research on solar panel and lithium-ion battery recycling. The collaboration intends to generate technical reports and recommendations to help establish national and international recycling standards for handling solar waste.
