China- based Astronergy has partnered with RCR Green,an electrical service provider, to power the 7.2MW Ashburton Solar Farm in Canterbury, New Zealand. The farm used 11,750 ASTRO N5 n-type solar modules. It was connected to the grid in December 2024. The farm was expected to generate 10,870.13 MWh of electricity annually. This could supply power to over 2,500 households. The project functioned as a sheep-based agrivoltaic system. It allowed sheep grazing and crop cultivation. Research showed that sheep helped reduce weed and maintenance costs. Studies also found improved wool quality under shaded solar modules.
