US-based Ameresco, an energy solutions provider, was awarded an 8.9 MW (DC) solar project at the 5th Canadian Division Support Base (CDSB) in Oromocto, New Brunswick, as part of Canada’s Federal Buildings Initiative. The CAD 26.7 million (~$18.81 million) project aimed to improve energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The project includes 14,496 solar panels. It is expected to generate 8,900 MWh annually. This will cover 20% of the base’s electricity needs. The system is designed to prevent 7,695 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions each year. Ameresco is responsible for design, engineering, procurement, and construction. The system will integrate seamlessly with the base’s existing infrastructure. It is equipped with advanced monitoring technology. This will help optimize long-term performance. The project is expected to be completed by June 2025. It is estimated to save approximately CAD 1.3 million (~$0.91 million) in annual utility costs. Ameresco will provide operations and maintenance services under a 25-year contract. This will ensure reliability and resilience.
