AkzoNobel, the Netherlands-based paints and coatings producer, has inked its first PPA in Sweden with Sweden-headquartered solar developer Alight. Alight has announced that it will fund, build, own, and operate a 15 MW solar park in Uppsala County, which will be operational by 2027. The park will produce 16 GWh of electricity every year and has been designed to serve AkzoNobel's locations in Kristinehamn and Gothenburg. AkzoNobel has explained that the deal is part of its 2030 goal to run on 100% renewable electricity. The firm is already running on fully renewable electricity in all its European manufacturing locations, aside from Türkiye. AkzoNobel is also negotiating the same style of PPAs for its Malmö location and possible future expansions in Germany.
