The New York Power Authority (NYPA), based in White Plains, and the City of Albany plan a 1.5 MW solar project at the capped North Albany/Shaker Park landfill. Scheduled for completion by 2027, the system is expected to power over 200 homes annually. It is the first project under NYPA’s REACH program, which aims to lower electricity costs for low- and moderate-income households through bill credits. NYPA’s subsidiary, NYRED, will oversee implementation. The site, adjacent to Albany’s Department of General Services, was selected after assessing multiple locations. With feasibility studies completed, the next phase involves submitting a utility interconnection application. The project is part of NYPA’s broader plan to develop over 3 GW of renewable energy across New York State.
