Yemen’s first large-scale solar power plant was commissioned in Aden with loan from the United Arab Emirates. The 120 MW facility, located north of the city, became operational in July 2024 and has supplied electricity to an estimated 150,000 to 170,000 homes each day. Yemen has suffered for nearly three decades of power shortages caused by fuel supply constraints and extensive war-related damage to national grid infrastructure. Local merchants reported that frequent outages previously led to financial losses when goods spoiled or refrigeration systems failed. In the regional context, TCL SunPower Global, a China-based solar technology provider, has earlier this year partnered with Energia Italia to distribute solar modules in Italy, reflecting parallel developments in expanding solar adoption across different markets.
