Aboitiz Power Distributed Renewables, a Philippines-based developer of distributed renewable energy projects, and Upgrade Energy Philippines, a Manila-based solar solutions provider, commissioned a solar-battery hybrid system on Balesin Island in Polillo, Quezon. Inaugurated on September 19, 2025, the project included 4.128 MW DC / 2.880 MW AC of solar generation integrated with 2.750 MW / 5.504 MWh of battery storage. The facility was designed to meet 60 % of Balesin Island’s monthly electricity consumption of about 700 MWh and reduce diesel usage. According to the Department of Energy, the system has shown how solar and storage integration is technically feasible and suitable for remote areas. The completed project has stabilized power supply for residents and commercial operations while addressing demand fluctuations common to isolated island grids.
