VDE Americas, a global expert in solar project hail risk assessment and loss prevention, launched the VDE Hail Risk Atlas to assess the economic risk of hail damage to solar assets. Available on the Esri ArcGIS platform, the tool used proprietary test data, on-site forensics, and computer modeling with radar and observational data to create hail risk maps. It also identified financial and weather risks across different regions, from low-risk to high-risk zones. The atlas provided key insights, including maps showing hailstorm probabilities and estimates for possible maximum loss (PML) and average yearly loss (AAL). These insights helped developers, insurers, and investors evaluate hail risks, choose suitable equipment, and secure proper insurance coverage. Its data supported compliance with strict investment and insurance requirements, strengthening the financial security and protection of solar projects.
