TESCO, headquartered in the US, has introduced the Backup Power Transfer Meter (BPTM), developed in collaboration with Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E). The BPTM provides a safe, automatic solution for switching to backup power during outages, eliminating the need for manual transfer switches, extension cords, and sub-panels. Installed directly at the meter, the device ensures compliance with EUSERC standards while preventing dangerous backfeeding into utility lines. It allows for whole-home power via direct generator connection (30A, 240V), offering a seamless transition between grid and backup power. The BPTM is also compatible with distributed energy resources, including solar inverters and battery storage. PG&E has successfully deployed the meter in high-risk outage areas, improving grid resilience. The device is now available for US-wide utility deployments, with pilot programs and large-scale implementations currently open for participation.
