Sunrun, a California-based residential solar and storage provider, has launched Sunrun Flex, a subscription offering that combines photovoltaic panels with battery storage. The service allows households to install systems larger than current usage to accommodate future demand such as EV adoption or family growth. Sunrun stated that the plan includes a fixed monthly minimum payment and applies a Flex Rate when usage exceeds the pre-solar baseline. If consumption falls below the baseline, customers earn Rollover Credits to offset future overages. Sunrun Flex includes battery backup for grid outages and peak-rate periods, along with 24/7 monitoring, maintenance, and performance guarantees. Customers are automatically enrolled in Sunrun’s grid services programs, where available, and receive compensation. According to Sunrun, the offering helps optimize energy use without oversizing systems, enabling flexibility for self-consumption, storage, or grid export.
