Oceans of Energy, a Netherlands-based offshore solar technology company, and CrossWind have achieved a key milestone in the HKN1 hybrid renewable project. A dynamic subsea export cable, designed by Oceans of Energy to withstand harsh North Sea conditions, has passed Factory Acceptance Testing at NKT’s facility in Sweden. The cable was transported to the Hollandse Kust Noord site in the Dutch North Sea and is now ready for installation. According to Oceans of Energy, the cable will become the first in the North Sea to transmit solar power into an offshore wind grid. CrossWind has stated that the integration of solar with wind infrastructure is intended to optimize marine space and reduce energy costs. The HKN1 project is expected to demonstrate the viability of hybrid offshore systems for scalable and efficient renewable energy generation.
