US-based solar technology company, NEXT Energy Technologieshas recently installed a 100-square-foot transparent OPV building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) façade. The installation was made at its headquarters in Santa Barbara, California. The installation features six OPV (organic photovoltaic)-coated glass units, each measuring 40 by 60 inches. Viracon fabricated the insulating glass units, and Walters & Wolf supplied and installed the framing system. The OPV coating was applied to the outboard lite, with cabling routed through the framing to enable electrical connectivity. The system integrates into standard commercial facade infrastructure and provides a demonstration of OPV functionality in a real-world building application.
