Yuanhai Kou, China’s largest solar-plus-LNG dual-fuel car carrier, has departed on its maiden voyage from Nansha, Guangzhou. The vessel is 199.9 meters long, has a gross tonnage of 68,252 tons, and is transporting up to 7,000 vehicles, over 90 percent of which are new energy models. According to LONGi, a China-based PV module manufacturer headquartered in Xi’an, the ship has been equipped with over 500 Sea-Shield series panels. The 302.8 kW PV system is installed on the upper deck and is supplying power to onboard systems like lighting and communications. LONGi stated that the system is designed to generate 410,000 kWh annually and reduce 345.9 tons of CO₂ emissions. The Sea-Shield modules have corrosion-resistant frames and sealed junction boxes to withstand salt spray, humidity, and vibration during maritime operations.
