5N Plus Inc of Canada has expanded its supply agreement with First Solar Inc of the USA to increase deliveries of cadmium telluride (CdTe) semiconductor compounds by 33% for 2025–2026 and by a further 25% for 2027–2028, compared to initial volumes. Beginning in 2026, the deal will also include cadmium selenide (CdSe), another critical material used in thin-film PV manufacturing. The revised agreement supports First Solar’s planned expansion of USproduction capacity to 14 GW by 2026, using materials sourced from North America or allied nations. 5N Plus will meet the higher demand through its manufacturing facilities in Canada and Germany, following recent expansions in production and recycling capabilities.
