EneCoat Technologies Co., Ltd., headquartered in Kyoto, Japan, in collaboration with Toyota Motor Corporation, has achieved a 30.4% conversion efficiency using a 4-terminal tandem solar cell combining perovskite and crystalline silicon. The tandem structure utilizes perovskite for visible light and crystalline silicon for infrared light, achieving 81% infrared transmittance—a groundbreaking milestone for this technology. Additionally, a film-type perovskite solar cell with 22.4% efficiency and 81% infrared transmittance was developed, making it suitable for curved surfaces like automobile roofs. These innovations have demonstrated the potential of high-efficiency solar cells in applications with limited installation areas, including vehicles and satellites. Efforts are ongoing to scale the technology to larger modules, with results to be presented at IPEROP25 in January 2025.
