Netherlands-based Lightyear, a leader in grid-independent solar mobility, collaborated with Granstudio to explore how solar technology could redefine vehicle design and functionality. They aimed to address challenges in electric vehicle adoption such as range, cost and charging. The project involved translating user insights into vehicle concepts with varying typologies, including mass-market and high-performance models. These concepts focused on extending energy independence through aerodynamic design and larger solar surfaces. A mixed-reality platform was used to test and refine ideas. The team also developed a solar calculation tool to help designers integrate solar tech more efficiently. This collaboration enabled new design approaches using creative methods and technical tools.
