Contact recombination in JSIM cells drops to 88 fA/cm² front and 21 fA/cm² rear, improving performance. Image Source: Wiley
The University of New South Wales, Australia, has evaluated Jolywood, China, which is producing advanced solar technologies. According to the University of New South Wales, Jolywood’s JSIM process uses laser-assisted firing under reverse bias, improving TOPCon solar cell efficiency by ~0.58%abs. Jolywood has said that JSIM-treated cells reduced contact recombination to 88 fA/cm² front and 21 fA/cm² rear. Simulations using Quokka 3 have confirmed that JSIM shifts contact recombination away from being the primary power loss factor. The University of New South Wales noted that JSIM is already used in Jolywood’s manufacturing and is feasible for high-volume production. As per researchers, optimizing the front screen print pattern may increase JSIM-enabled TOPCon cell efficiency by another ~0.3%abs.
