Inner Mongolia Energy Group, a state-owned enterprise headquartered in Hohhot, China, has conducted a comparative study of LONGi’s Hi-MO 9 back contact (BC) modules against conventional TOPCon modules under desert conditions. The project spanned 1,533 hectares in a region with about 3,000 annual sunshine hours, where drought, high evaporation, and frequent sandstorms were persistent, creating challenging operational demands. According to Inner Mongolia Energy Group, the installation deployed 640 W BC modules and 575 W TOPCon modules under identical conditions for evaluation. Performance data collected from April to July 2025 showed BC modules producing 2.45% higher generation per kilowatt and 9.05% greater output per unit area compared with TOPCon. In June, when 14 days were overcast or rainy, BC modules still recorded a 2.44% monthly cumulative generation gain. Earlier this year, Institut Photovoltaïque d’Île-de-France (IPVF) had reported similar findings showing Hi-MO 9 BC modules outperforming TOPCon technology in controlled test conditions.
