US-based Heliogen Inc. and Woodside Energy have concluded the Capella project, a demonstration of Generation 3 concentrated solar power (CSP) technology. Funded by Woodside Energy and the US Department of Energy, the project advanced key innovations. These include the Centrec particle receiver, performance modeling tools, and supply chain collaborations for supercritical CO₂ turbines. Capella achieved significant milestones, including completing front-end engineering design and securing key site approvals. Despite progress, construction was not pursued due to cost escalation. Heliogen and Woodside continue to explore future CSP collaboration opportunities.
