Fortis Energy, a renewable power developer in North Macedonia, has pushed the performance of its 80 MWp Oslomej Solar Power Plant to new heights by incorporating a 62 MW / 104 MWh BESS. As Fortis Energy explains, the incorporation is designed to counteract the volatility of solar output and enhance the reliability of power supply to the national grid. The BESS facility has been engineered to buffer surplus electricity generated under high irradiance conditions and supply it during peak load hours so that energy supply is continuous through time-shifting operations. It will also render ancillary services like frequency regulation and voltage support, boosting grid robustness. Situated on a former coal mine location, Oslomej produces some 120 GWh of clean energy per year, with the full commissioning of BESS set for 2026.
