East West University, a Bangladesh-based academic institution, has developed a method for modeling PV systems on sloped terrain. The university has introduced a precursor formulation that recalculates sun-path and irradiance values for sloped surfaces and integrates them into existing PV performance models. According to East West University, the method avoids the need to redesign full simulation tools by serving as an adaptable input layer. It was validated using the PV-MAPS farm model, which produced the first documented energy output and ground illuminance data for sloped bifacial arrays. The model is compatible with mono and bifacial modules, fixed-tilt or tracking systems, and single or multi-junction configurations. East West University has stated that the approach addresses a key modeling gap, as much of the global land available for solar deployment is not flat but uneven or sloped.
