Tandem PV, a perovskite solar technology developer, secured a $4.7 million grant from the US Department of Energy (DOE) to commercialize their thin-film solar panels. These panels combine perovskite materials with traditional silicon cells, aiming for a potential 40% increase in power output. The DOE awarded a total of $71 million to various clean energy projects, with this being Tandem PV’s tenth such award. Tandem PV’s current panels achieve 26% efficiency, surpassing the typical silicon panel’s efficiency by 25%. The company’s design offers potential benefits like reduced labor costs, lower land use requirements, and a lower overall cost for customers.
