Sunrun, a leading US-based clean energy provider, has expanded its support for Texas’s energy grid by partnering with Tesla Electric, a retail electricity provider under Tesla Energy Ventures LLC. This collaboration, Sunrun’s first aggregated power plant in Texas, has already enrolled over 150 customers. As per the company, the initiative aims to use stored solar energy from Tesla Powerwall batteries to boost electricity reserves during peak periods. This effort responds to recent power disruptions, including Hurricane Beryl and the February 2021 winter storm. The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) is enhancing grid resilience through its Aggregated Distributed Energy Resources Task Force. Sunrun customers participating in ERCOT’s pilot program will share in lower energy costs and receive $400 annually per Powerwall.
