The United States has surpassed 5 million solar installations, a notable milestone in its clean energy transition. This achievement follows the first grid-connected solar installation in 1973 and the 1 million installations milestone reached in 2016. Data from the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) and Wood Mackenzie reveals that over half of these installations occurred since 2020, with more than 25% post-Inflation Reduction Act. Solar installations now power 7% of US homes, projected to grow to over 15% by 2030. The residential sector, making up 97% of installations, has set annual records consistently. California leads with 2 million installations, while states like Illinois and Florida show rapid growth. By 2030, 22 states are expected to exceed 100,000 installations each.
