Norway-based renewable energy company Scatec has been awarded the contract to construct a 1 GW solar power plant for Egypt’s largest aluminum producer, Egypt Aluminum Company (Egyptalum). The solar plant, located in Nag Hammadi, will supply power to Egyptalum’s production facilities as per the cooperation agreement. Scatec will develop the facility in two 500 MW phases, with Phase I expected to be operational within 18 months and Phase II within 24 months from signing. Egyptalum stated that the solar plant aligns with its development plans, with the Nag Hammadi site boasting an annual production capacity of 320,000 tons.
