REC Silicon ASA has ceased polysilicon production at its Moses Lake, Washington facility, marking its full exit from US polysilicon manufacturing. Silicon gas production equipment at the site will be preserved for potential future use, targeting demand for Silicon Anode or other silicon gases. The decision follows the February 2024 closure of its Butte, Montana plant. Challenges at Moses Lake, including unresolved quality issues and a failed qualification test in December 2024, contributed to the shutdown. Advanced negotiations allowed contract cancellations without penalties and deferred repayment of prepayments. REC Silicon will shift focus to its silicon gas business, streamline operations, and conduct a strategic review. Workforce reductions and financial restructuring efforts are underway, with updates expected as the transition progresses.
