Wattlab, headquartered in the Netherlands and focused on maritime solar solutions, has launched SolarDeck for seagoing vessels. According to Wattlab, SolarDeck has modular plug-and-play panels with twist lock fittings for quick deck installation. The system was developed and tested over 18 months aboard Vertom’s 7,280 dwt vessel Anette with Dutch Organisation for Applied Scientific Research (TNO) and EU support. Testing has confirmed that SolarDeck is durable under saline conditions and storms while maintaining reliable power generation. Wattlab stated the system has potential to save 20 metric tons of fuel and reduce 68 metric tons of CO₂ annually. As per Wattlab, larger vessels have been expected to achieve even greater fuel and emissions savings. The system is expected to offer a three-to-five-year return on investment and is designed to meet EEXI, CII, and EU maritime regulations.
