SolarPower Europe has released a report on the growth of plug-in photovoltaic systems in Europe. Plug-in solar PV systems, including ‘balcony solar,’ are becoming popular in Europe. These systems, usually one or two panels connected to a home socket, can cover up to 25% of a household’s annual electricity consumption. Germany hadover 780,000 registered systems by the end of 2024, with estimates suggesting upto 4 million in use. The demand for small-scale battery storage (1-5 kWh) is also increasing withsub-2 kWh batteries growing 24 times inGermany from 2023 to2024.Belgium set to legalize plug-in solar in April 2025, and Germany simplifies easing grid registration. The German regulator VDE is set to develop the first dedicated plug-in solar product standard, expected by end of 2025.
