California based SMA America has launched the Sunny Central Storage UP-S battery inverter in the US expanding its large-scale storage portfolio with a focus on grid-forming applications. Originally introduced in Australia, the inverter uses advanced silicon carbide (SiC MOSFET) technology to achieve over 99.2% efficiency, reduce energy loss, and lower infrastructure and maintenance costs. It delivers up to 4,600 kVA without power derating at 35°C and supports high-performance energy storage by minimizing battery needs and maximizing energy yield. Key features include dynamic grid support, rapid grid restoration during outages, overload capability, fault ride-through, and compatibility with complex grid conditions. Designed for utilities and developers, the solution enhances system stability, reduces CAPEX, and improves profitability.
