The California State Legislature has approved Assembly Bill 825 and Senate Bill 302 to support renewable energy expansion and address rising electricity costs. Assembly Bill 825 has established a framework for a regional electricity partnership across Western states, designed to widen market opportunities for California’s solar and storage resources while improving grid reliability and lowering household bills. Senate Bill 302 has aligned California’s tax code with the federal Inflation Reduction Act, enabling access to incentives for local renewable projects and reducing overall project expenses. The Solar Energy Industries Association, a Washington, D.C.-based trade association that speaks for the solar and storage industry, has called on Governor Gavin Newsom to sign both bills, citing their significance in the face of regulatory hurdles and cost pressures. In its US Solar Market Insight report Q3 2025, SEIA and Wood Mackenzie have reported that California is the nation's leader with 53 GW of installed solar capacity serving over 15 million homes.
