Malaysia’s Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (Petra) has added 100 MW to the Net Energy Metering (NEM) Rakyat rooftop solar quota after the earlier 600 MW was fully subscribed. The new quota is available until June 30 or until it is fully taken. As per Petra, the NEM Rakyat scheme allows residential users to export surplus solar power to the grid with credits valid for one year. In contrast, the SelCo program supports only self-consumption without export. Petra and the Energy Commission are reviewing rooftop solar regulations to improve access and equity for electricity users. The Community Renewable Energy Aggregation Mechanism permits aggregators to lease residential rooftops and supply commercial users, with a MYR 0.15 (~ $0.036) per kWh network charge. Under NEM 3.0, 524.65 MW remains under NEM Nova, while 17.2 MW is left under NEM GoMEn.
