India’s Ministry of New & Renewable Energy, headquartered in New Delhi and responsible for advancing renewable programs, has expanded the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers to include solar cells and announced plans to extend it to ingots and polysilicon. The move is also in sync with the ₹24,000 crore (~ $2.64 billion) PLI scheme, as per the Union Minister Pralhad Joshi, which has received close to ₹50,000 crore (~ $5.50 billion) of investments. India's domestic PV manufacturing capacity was at 2.4 GW in 2013 and has risen to 130 GW as of 2025. Installed non-fossil generation was reported at 250 GW, with a national target of 500 GW in the next five years. Rooftop solar installations under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana are expected to increase rapidly from 20 lakh to 50 lakh within a month. Joshi said states were urged to resolve land clearances, Right-of-Way issues, and PPA delays to unlockadditional photovoltaic capacity.
