A high-level delegation from the Lives and Livelihoods Fund (LLF), a Saudi Arabia-based multilateral finance platform, concluded a three-day visit to the Maldives to review progress on the “Support People’s Livelihoods in the Fishery Sector through Sustainable Energy” project. The $13.61 million program, co-funded by the Government of Maldives and LLF partners, aims to modernize the fisheries sector through the adoption of PV and refrigerated seawater (RSW) systems to reduce diesel dependence, improve fish quality, and enhance value-chain efficiency. According to LLF, a total of 79 financing applications have been submitted and 41 approved, reflecting strong participation from fishers and small businesses. By the project’s completion in 2026, 200 SMEs will be supported, 1.6 MW of renewable capacity will be commissioned, and 3,000 tons of additional cold storage will be created. The program also promotes inclusivity by training women and youth to strengthen entrepreneurship and digital marketing skills.
