JERA Co., Inc., Japan’s largest power producer, signed an agreement with the Governor’s Office of Hawai‘i on October 6, 2025, in Tokyo. The partnership aims to help Hawai‘i move toward cleaner energy by exploring fuel diversity and alternative energy sources. It supports the state’s plan to reduce oil use by adopting affordable options like natural gas. Governor Josh Green said the deal would help make Hawai‘i’s energy cleaner and more reliable. JERA CEO Yukio Kani said both Japan and Hawai‘i could work together to find practical ways to strengthen energy systems for island communities.
