The Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA) has published a briefing note assessing Japan’s plan to integrate perovskite solar into its energy mix. National policy targets have included 1 GW domestic production by 2030 and 20 GW installations by 2040, supported by LCOE goals of JPY 10 to 14 (~$0.064 to $0.090) per kWh. Manufacturers have predicted higher projected costs and short lifespans of 5 to 12 years. The briefing has suggested giving priority to silicon-based systems while positioning perovskites as secondary additions.
Japan outlines targeted strategy for perovskite solar deployment
IEEFA’s briefing evaluates Japan’s perovskite deployment targets, cost assumptions, projected lifespans, and its recommendation to emphasize established PV technologies.
