The Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE) of India, has issued an amendment to its Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) order for solar PV cells on 28 July 2025. The amendment clarified that the mandatory requirement of using ALMM-listed solar PV cells in government tied projects, including those regulated under Section 63 of the Electricity Act 2003, would be effective only one month from the date of ALMM list publication for cells. The previous compliance deadline of June 1, 2026 for projects already commissioned was not altered. The objective of the amendment was to clarify the process for bidders taking part in tenders and to ease implementation challenges faced by developers. India currently has 91 GW of solar PV module capacity and 27 GW of cell capacity. By aligning compliance with list finalization, MNRE intends to support domestic manufacturing and streamline project planning under national renewable procurement frameworks. The ALMM cell list is currently under preparation.
