The UK government and Great British Energy expanded funding for solar panel installations across NHS sites in England. A total of 34 NHS trusts, covering around 70 new sites, were added to the programme, bringing the total to about 260 NHS sites. The scheme aimed to reduce energy bills and generate savings of up to GBP 65 million (~$ 86.61 million) over the panels’ lifetime. Funding up to GBP 30 million (~$ 39.98 million) was allocated to these trusts, contributing to an overall GBP 255 million (~$ 339.89 million) national programme that also included schools and military sites. The initiative sought to lower NHS energy costs, which reached about GBP 1.34 billion annually, and enable savings to be reinvested in frontline healthcare services while supporting the UK’s clean energy goals.
