European Solar Manufacturing Council (ESMC) supports domestic content regulation in the leaked EU Clean Industrial Deal. Christoph Podewils, ESMC Secretary General, urges a “Made in Europe” clause in the Net-Zero Industry Act (NZIA) for policy coherence. The draft Clean Industrial Deal proposes local content criteria for public tenders, but the NZIA omits them. Podewils calls for alignment to strengthen demand for European clean tech. He expressed concerns over unfair Chinese competition and stressed that public funds must be used to purchase European clean technology products. The ESMC planned to submit feedback on Regulation 2024/1735, and the European Commission was set to present the Clean Industrial Deal on February 26.
